The problem comes into play when 12 players have 70 chests each and then someone nearby decides they want to build a mega apartment with even more chests. The lag seems to be happening when, depending upon the client PC, you start approaching 1000 or so chests in a loaded area (10 chunks in any direction, 16x16x256 blocks per chunk). A handful of shop owners storing in the same area could easily reach this, as the Flea Market proved. This is especially true now that we have hoppers and you can effectively have 2 double chests-worth of items linked to a single buy sign, cutting down on the frequency of having to restock because the hopper would automatically pull supplies from the top chest to refill the bottom one.

One solution would be to do what you did, essentially, and simply dig under your house and make a mass storage basement. This takes time, space you could devote to something else, tools you may not wish to use, etc. The centralized storage location would make it more convenient for players who do not have the room or do not wish to go through this hassle. :)

True, but if everyone who has a home in West Leoville set up a storage center there, then it would lag down the client side. I suggest somewhere out there, My storage center in way out in Goobghanistan, Pretty far from everyone else.

I had the impression that there was no massive storage in west leoville when i set-up there, which is why i made it there.

I have a home in hyrule that would be less conveinent to sign shop link. but it's spread out enough that im sure the house is in a few chunks and theres no one right next to me because of the exact place under the water i built into. Even the rail into town may be another chunk away and i know i have less than 50 chests for my store (26-30?)

I cant stop any weast leoville owners from setting up there own storage there. i named it as an example of a place i own that is close-ish to spawn to be good for setting up shops for myself. I reccomend that everyone who wants a large amount of products for their store to go way out where no one else has a large storage area. Or atleast spread out enough that it wont 0.0 tps someone.

it's inconveinent, its annoying when someone just set up a shop and needs to relocate. but lag affects everyone, even of the i7's with optifine are merely hovering or do a double take.
"Cakes to Dye for" is BACK . . . [west of main spawn]

We have many kinds of food, pies, all dyes and cake. No lie!
