Aquadome Sculpture Contest

We're getting close to the opening of the Aquadome, everyone! As such, I am beginning to look at aesthetic details in and around the build site and I noticed that, while the Aquadome itself is oval in shape, the pit it rests in is rectangular. As such, there are large, unused portions of the pit on all 4 corners. I decided that the best (See: easiest for me) way to handle this was to hold a sculpture contest!

Starting tomorrow and for the next 2 weeks (April 17th, 2013), I would like to devote this thread to addressing questions of/assisting those willing to participate. Once those 2 weeks are up, we will take a look at the submissions. If we only have 4 or less, those submissions will be accepted and the sculptures will be built on the pit floor. If we have more than 4 submissions, I will post a new thread with a poll. You will all then have 1 week to vote for your favorite sculpture and the top 4 will be selected. If there is a tie, we'll hold tie-breaker rounds.

Geez, you ask a lot of questions! Basically, I'm asking you to make artwork within a set boundary using whatever blocks you are capable of harvesting from Survival/Resource. It doesn't have to match the Aquadome's color scheme at all, though it wouldn't hurt. It just needs to look nice and be visible from a distance underwater. There will be observation windows inside the dome where players can safely view your artwork from.

You are an insolent whelp, aren't you? What if I told you that there will be a sign placed on each observation window with the name of the piece and the artist? Not enough? How about a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Place Prize?

1st Prize: 2,000 coins + Poster's Mirage Tower Apartment!
2nd Prize: 1,500 coins + 4 Diamond *BLOCKS*
3rd Prize: 1,000 coins + 2 Diamond *BLOCKS*
4th Prize: 500 coins + 1 Diamond *BLOCK*

There are a handful of rules that will need to be adhered to, which follow:

- All sculptures must fit inside a 9x18x9 cube (9 blocks long, 9 blocks wide, 18 blocks tall). No, they will not be enclosed. I just want to keep the size reasonable.

- Submissions must be easily discernible underwater. There will be a uniform lighting plan for the ocean floor similar to the torch/dirt block temporary solution we're using at the moment, but the light sources will be spread out further. The platforms these pieces will be resting on will be under about 39 blocks of water, somewhat lit by the surroundings, and approximately 5 blocks away from the window. Your design should anticipate this and either include its own light source or materials that are easy to see in these conditions.

- Supplies will be provided to replicate the winning sculptures in Survival if needed. You will be expected to build the sculpture yourself if your design is selected.

- It is recommended that prototypes/designs be built either in Creative on the server or on a personal map. I would recommend building a glass box around it and filling said box with water to observe how your sculpture will appear in this setting.

- NO PIXEL ART. Sculptures should be 3D - Not a flat picture.

- Multiple submissions from a single player *ARE* acceptable! If you have 5 great ideas and want to submit them all, do so! Each piece is being individually judged on its own merits, not the player themselves. And yes the artist, regardless of the number of submissions selected, will receive the appropriate prize for each submission. If a single player wins all 4, he or she will get all 4 prizes!

- DO NOT ASK ME SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS IN-CHAT. If you have questions, concerns, etc., I'm sure other players do as well. Post them here so that we can all benefit.

- To avoid the appearance of bias, please PM a URL to your screenshots to me before the deadline. All submissions will then be voted on anonymously. Please use the subject "Aquadome Sculpture Contest Submission" so that I can weed them out.

- All screenshots must be submitted with the VANILLA texture pack (the default textures). Not all players will be using your special pack and this needs to look nice no matter what.

- I might have to modify parts of this in the coming 2 weeks, so please keep an eye on the opening post/this thread to make sure your submission complies.

Updated Prize List - My Mirage Towers apartment has been added to the prizes. This building is filled to capacity and lies between Sky 5 and Leoville to the Southeast. It comes fully-furnished and has plenty of storage options for the traveler on the go. The original purchase price was approximately 1000 coins.

Try compressing the image or upload it to an outside source like imgur/dropbox/flickr/instagram etc.

Then take the URL of that Image copy and paste it but use the image tag like so

LOL! He magically appeared one evening after I purchased the apartment and followed me to my West Leoville house, where he's been forced to sit ever since.

Slight problem: The way we're wanting to finish the dome will interfere with the sculptures. I still want to use the submissions and the contest is still on-going, but they are going to have to be placed somewhere else. Yes, I do have an idea for where.
