DOT: Nether Rail

Postby Robrotheram » 09 Dec 2012, 13:12

DOT + Community working together

I did not want to say anything much on this matter as I was unclear with how you would get up and down and if any mods would spawn and destroy the line as explosions are turned on.

Theses are my suggestions. Also I love more members its been a bit lonely building new lines with one person

A central hub in the nether where all the lines go from,
Each line to go to a major place e.g Airfield or HyRule, I think private lines should be built through the nether not over it.
Having to many lines will just defeat the object of lines in the overworld. so maybe have lines to new DOT Hubs where other users can add the lines to their smaller builds / communities.
Each route needs to lines (arrival and departure) power can come form either red stone torches or detector rails

Are we looking to start the project even though we have the problems with nether portals?

I just noticed a little bit of a problem with this project. Take a look at the survival nether map. It's starting to render large swaths of bedrock that obscure the view of what's underneath.

To be honest, I could never figure out how to read the Nether map. It just looks like gibberish. So not sure how much of a detriment doing the rail over bedrock is going to be if the map is useless to most people in the first place.

I certainly wouldn't call it useless. Sure, it wasn't as clear or easy to use as the overworld map, but it was effective if you knew how to use it. Made navigating the Nether so much easier when I could just look for a fortress or glowstone on the map then find my way there in-game using the map on my laptop as a guide.

Freeatnet and I have decided to mostly scrap the netherrail, due to multilpe complaints about being above bedrock. See the Netherroad post for info on the new version.
