Pigmen in survival

Postby TJMinerCrafter » 05 Apr 2014, 09:16

I am aware that this issue has been discussed at a town hall. However, I believe that something has to be done about pigmen. When one person aggovates them, they become very hostile, often resulting in the death of another player. Furthermore, If they pick up and wear that players items, they might despawn, by going through a portal.

Zombie pigman make a b-line for any player if they are aggressive. Make a safe-zone around all major portals by digging a two-wide, two or three-deep trench around them, and placing half slabs in the safe zone. In the worst case scenario the pigmen will fall into the trench where you can kill them more easily.

There's also a plugin that controls that agro everyone behavior. Another program gives you momentary invisibility upon going through portals to ensure a chance to run. Just a thought.

After spending some time in the nether, I can see what the problem is. Some of the problems can be fixed by lowering the floor by half a block, replacing the iron doors with something you can attack through (e.g. a trapdoor that blocks the way, or a piston that retracts a halfslab in a 1,5 high gap. That leaves the problem of the roof of the hub. You can either put fences around it to prevent getting jumped by pigman you can't see, or half slab it and make it inaccessible to pigman. That should cause the main portal to be reasonably safe. Redoing the entire portal area is an other option, but that might make some people grumpy. Installing a plugin, just because the nether hub is not built properly to be safe, doesn't sound sane to me.
