Consider the horse:

- Saddles and horses are easily obtainable by even the newest of players. Horse + Saddle deals regularly occur for about 150 coins, half of the starting salary of any player.

- Most horses currently in-use are faster than a minecart.

- You don't need massive amounts of iron to ride a horse.

- Horses aren't stuck on a fixed path that has to be carved out and rail run to.

- A road looks a lot nicer than a spiderweb of rails all across a region/map.

- Underground rails interfere with mining, can be risky to build, and are wholly unnecessary since the horse update.

I currently live in the mesa. I've started to witness players creeping into the mesa biome from the main spawn and steadily destroying hardened clay deposits and building cobblestone and wood box homes that take 5 minutes max to build, have few-to-no windows, and no obvious effort expended upon actually trying to design a nice-looking home that isn't merely an eyesore. I beg of you - Please do not compound this problem by littering the mesa, or any part of the map for that matter, with a rail system that will not be used enough to justify the expenditure of time, iron, wood, and other materials and WILL end up being more trouble than it's worth. And no, underground rails are NOT the solution to this. They're just as pointless, they just happen to be underground instead of above which means they interfere with mining on top of being worthless.

Pre-Horse Update and the current map reset with multiple spawn towns, the D.O.T. rail system had it's place. It was a far simpler and safer way to traverse the map. Now, between the addition of horses and the beginnings of a well-designed road system, a rail system is not needed and, as a member of the mesa biome community, it's not welcome.

Please do not build this into the mesa.
