How To Be A Moderator's Best Friend.

Postby Demonfive » 19 Jun 2012, 12:19

TWiTcraft mods do a lot for the server. We invest loads of time and effort into the server because we care about the success of the server and the happiness of the players. I'm happy to say that almost all players on TWiTcraft seem to appreciate our efforts, but there are some things people don't think about, that end up becoming issues with us mods. I decided to write up this quick post to hopefully bring to light a few things people can do do make life incredibly easier for the moderators who volunteer their time on this server.

1. When you do a /modreq, do it from the appropriate place. - If your house was griefed, report it from your house. If you find an inappropriate sign in the middle of the desert, report it from next to the sign. If you for whatever reason can't manage to report from the exact location, try to give us co-ordinates, or at least do your best to briefly describe the area. Mods have the ability to teleport directly to the location from which a /modreq was made, so it makes life much easier if you allow us to teleport to the scene, instead of a random forest you walked into before you remembered to report the incident.

1.2. If something is griefed, please try to avoid fixing it for at least 24 hours after you /modreq it. - I know this is a lot to ask in some cases, but it really does help. In order to check block history we need to know what blocks to check, and we can't know what blocks to check if we've already fixed everything.

2. If we can't help you with a problem, please don't throw a fit about it. - As I said earlier, all TWiTcraft mods want you to have a great time on the server. If we could solve every single problem anyone has, we would. It's safe to assume that if I tell you "Sorry, there's nothing I can do to help you with that.", I'm probably more upset about it than you are. Seriously, I want to solve all of your problems, but I can't. When I tell people there's nothing I can do to help them and they start crying and yelling at me, it's heartbreaking. I just want everyone to know that we really do try to solve every problem you bring to us, and getting angry when we can't find a solution just makes us want to help you less.

3. I'm sorry, there is no way to tell who killed your animals. - Unless the culprit broke/placed blocks to get to your mobs, there is no way we can see who did it. It's impossible to check the history on an entity that doesn't exist anymore. And no, we can't spawn you new animals, please don't ask. Please don't waste our time by reporting mob kills unless you really think we will be able to help.

4. No, we can not tell you the exact price that lots in Leoville are going to cost. We also do not have an exact date for when they will be available. - If anyone is to blame for this, It's me. It was my job to figure out how/when Leoville plots will work, and I got busy with other things. But asking "When will leoville lots be available?" every day will always get you the same answer - soon. Maybe next week, maybe next month. We are still working out the plugins/system we want to use, and we will be done soon.

5. Please don't sell everything you own to TWiTmart while I'm online. - This one is pretty selfish, and you certainly can ignore it if you want to. It was my job to set up the iBuy and iSell signs in the TWiTmart at spawn. What I didn't think about when setting them us is the fact that every time anyone sells anything to the shop, it alerts me in the chat. Which means if I'm trying to help someone and you happen to sell those 40 stacks of coal you've been sitting on, my chat is flooded with messages telling me what you're selling.

6. Be thankful to your moderators. - This one is important. We don't always need smoke blown up our asses, but if a moderator goes out of their way to help you, a nice "Thank you." isn't too much to ask for.

Of course, none of these are rules. We won't ban you if you don't follow these suggestions. Chances are, we won't even mention anything about it to you. But if you want to help show your appreciation to the mods, these are some nice ways to help us out.

Ouch! I've probably done #5 at least once. I'll keep that in mind in the future so I don't spam you.

I would like to thank all the mods for being such awesome people! I'm sure you guys don't get thanked enough so I will do it one more time: Thank you!

Unless t2t2 happened to randomly run nearby your base, saw the animals and can recall it the following day. But that is unlikely

(I can give myself permission to use spawneggs, but only if it's really likely that you didn't kill them yourself and expect free animals)

I approve of doing this (also donating Chad seeds one at a time and selling "natural" bread for higher cost than normal bread)

Can't you create a dummy moderator account, solely for the purpose of logging on and setting things like this? So that account would be spammed, but nobody is ever logged in so it doesn't matter.

I don't think so. Moderators and admins can do a lot of things, but not EVERYTHING.
