TWiT Department of Transportation Information

Postby linuxwitch » 05 Jun 2012, 02:45

I've been meaning to get some guidelines published for folks, so I've started this thread here! (For lack of a better place...maybe we can get a sub-forum?) This will definitely be a work in progress as Ngtflyer and I get things hashed out.

Who is TWiT DoT?

Admins:

DaddyPher - Founder (on hiatus)
Ngtflyer
Linuxwitch - Roads Maven

Members:

Robrotheram - Head of Rail

Future updates will include road specs, DoT property information & usage, and other general guidelines.

Im unsure that Robrotheram is head of rail, as last time i was on, he was not actively developing the rail. Others have been more active on the rail side than he.

He is. My disclosure of the appointment was not arbitrary.

I hope resources can be found to have power nodes more frequently, since most of the time when i try the rail I end up stopping (lag and bad protocol i guess)

All im saying is the TWiT department of transportation has never been involved with the rail system, Pher when he created it was more involved with the creation of roads and tunnels, but as i was building the initial parts of the rail system, he allowed it to go through his building. He has created very few parts of the above ground rail system, so unless he has worked on underground systems it appears to be arbitrary. So you can see why im a little annoyed with you making such a derision without consulting anyone else who created or worked on the rail system, and seem to think you can take control of it without ensuring other parties are happy.

Cool I did not know I was head of rail :)

Past few days I have been gathering resources and working on some improvements to the track.

My question is where should a new line/ extension go too?

First off, please remember this is a game. As for your claim of DoT's involvement in public rail, I can assure you that DaddyPher, Ngtflyer, JessKitten, and myself have ALL put in time on various projects.

No one has taken "control" of the entire rail system; Robrotheram is simply the guy to go to when coordinating projects, getting help with labor, and hopefully keeping the established (public) rail system from getting too chaotic. This frees Ngtflyer and myself up somewhat from the technical nature of rail.

It goes without saying that players are completely free to develop private and semi-private rail systems. Also, if folks want to link their locations or rail systems to the public and/or DoT-developed rail lines, Robrotheram is the point of contact. We can and will help with materials and labor, as much as we can.

As for making decisions (I'm hoping that's what you meant, as blatant public mockery isn't my style) without consulting others, appointing someone who has been active and helpful with rail focused projects in recent weeks hardly warrants getting annoyed over. We welcome everyone's help with any and all public DoT projects.

One of the reasons why I bothered posting on the forum is so that players can see what DoT is working on, where we could use labor, resources, and creative input. Call it "transparency".

Up until about 1.5 weeks ago (when i was last on heavily) DoT had very little todo with the rail system. Of which before this point there had been TWiTRail posts in survival discussion and heavily in game. When we were last doing heavy development DoT did not provide much help, worst locking down the DoT buildings doors (even though i have region access), where it was hoped a larger station would be build within.

I know in the past fortnight I dug one tunnel out for the now the sky5 line and a huge tunnel out to connect the station the the main loop, I design the station on that line and at the intersection the new line and main loop designed and built a switching station so users can change tracks without leaving their cart.
