Shop Rules Clarification
I have had it pointed out today that my shop is an issue as I did not read the rules properly, so to clarify;
The first part states:
"In order to ensure that all players have a positive and lag free experience when joining the server we have set up some additional rules, keep in mind these rules may be changed in the future. If you decide to build within 100 blocks of any town square or spawn region, you agree to the following terms of use:"
What I did not realise is that this results in an additional 100 block buffer after you reach the wilderness.
Then:
"You agree to only claim enough land to build yourself a reasonable sized home, unless working with a group of players to create a project that benefits the entire community.
You agree that you will not build a shop, grinder, large mob farm, large storage room, large redstone contraption, tardis, cobble box or any structure that affects the surrounding area in a negative way."
What I did not realise is this is definitive do not build these, rather than what I read which was do not build these that will have a "negative affect", Essentially a small shop would be OK (not the case).
I hope this helps to clarify for anyone else that may have read it the same.
Personally, I think this is being a bit cautious and I would like to see small shops allowed around the edge of the wilderness to make it easier for players to find and share resources, with the 5 cities and pushing shops out I think it will fragment the players too much. Thoughts?
Cheers

Re: Shop Rules Clarification
I was hoping they would have an area setup for shops. I was just going to wait and see what everyone else was doing. I plan on only doing a limited selection this time around. Selling every item is nice but spending 90% of my time filling stock wasn't fun.

Yes, we are being very cautious with regards to signshop lag, we were bit pretty hard last map when we allowed shops on Leoville lots. We want to avoid having a wall of lag as soon as you enter the wilderness so we added that 100 block from spawn/town square region rule and to be honest 100 blocks is not that long of a distance, it's about a 13 second run.
What we really need is for somebody to build a shopping district like the Mirage Mall or Flea Market, away from spawn but large enough that it attracts foot traffic.

Re: Shop Rules Clarification
So, what are we talking about here for a flea market/mall type area?
Outdoor, 9x9 plots, with a central square for common use and portals, etc? Road system included? Somewhere it doesn't rain?
How many plots? 9x9 with the middle 9 being the square?
I'd be happy to start on it if people will likely use it.
I would.

Sounds like a good idea, the central square idea is good as it lets it grow.
I would pick a spot directly North/South of Leoville so that it can be easily accessed from the Nether Road to start with.
Have you got an idea where?

North of Leoville is all heavy forest or tundra/frozen taiga. South is pretty much open ocean.
I could build it as a "floating" platform at sea, but I was thinking more along the lines of the desert south east of the central town. It's pretty wide open, easy to level out, free of rain, and not particularly popular for house/base building.
I built a mockup of one section and an outline of the central square in flatland, over in the prototype section.
What do you think?

Mr Thursty why not build the flea market shop whatever outside of sci fi in the desert there. people tend to forget that we have 5 hub towns and this would help in fixing that problem

Something may already be in the works on the outskirts of Sci-Fi...

That's pretty work... Not at all like I was thinking... but that's great. If they need any help building it, let me know... or did we want to do something like that at other outer towns?

Re: Shop Rules Clarification
i dont have the resources to build a mall myself, but i would be glad to help. i really, really want to get me store back up again soon and i just need a few more things for my underground to get a steady supply of them (and hoppers to speed up the prcess)
let me know, because i did things like finish the construction of my spot at the mirage mall so i could get that spot on the corner. im debating setting up a cake stand by the road near spawn (perhaps 1 outside every town now that weve spread out more). Cakes to Dye for will return.

"Cakes to Dye for" is BACK . . . [west of main spawn]
We have many kinds of food, pies, all dyes and cake. No lie!
