What's Happening with 1.7

Postby blendermf » 16 Oct 2013, 00:33

Details
  • Full reset of everything. Back to nothing, including money (nothing being the default start balance of 300 for money).
  • Old map offered as a download, as well as surviving on the server in a read-only mode.
  • Multiple city hubs, transportation using stargates (or something similar)
  • Potentially have the lobby be the hub between the cities (this means redesigned lobby)
  • One city being a mod city / twit city. Lots of twit buildings, mod buildings and community activities located here.
  • There would be a small town square with public buildings.
  • Outside that relatively small area, it’s free reign for the community to build up a city.
  • Probably no more lots. Ends up with a lot of empty spaces, giving areas a dead feeling. Adds technical complexity.
  • More details as to how cities will be run are still to be decided on.
  • Smaller map at the start, leave room to expand if new stuff is generated. New cities can be added in those new areas.
  • Now that the decision is made, community input should be helpful as to how accomplish this best, so we’ll discuss more with you guys.
  • Potentially, after a copy of the world is made, PVP turned on, regions turned off for a period of time leading up to the reset after people know. Gives people a fun more exciting thing to do (beside expand your resources that will be gone) to keep them playing until the reset. We think it would be fun.
  • Not everything is final and will be worked on, with input from the community. So don't necessarily take everything here as absolutes, things may change a bit with discussion.

Why Reboot?
  • 1.7 Map - New Biomes!
  • Current map built out, Leoville surrounded by old abandoned builds.
  • Finding wilderness to build on increasingly difficult for new players.
  • New cities give us the ability to plan out transportation grid from the very start.
  • Multiple cities spread out over the map allows players to spread out more, without transportation being a massive issue.
  • We think it can bring the community together to get a new world started, and having new cities provides community projects to be worked on
  • Map is very old currently, and there are a lot of things that are broken.
  • Terrain changes are different enough that biomes will change in the current world.

Why The Decision?
  • We’ve been trying to get feedback from the community on what to do with the 1.7 update, and how to get the new stuff into the game.
  • The discussion mainly centered around some sort of reset.
  • We saw discussions that just spiral out of control back and forth, with people constantly changing their mind, and people wanted to know what we were going to do.
  • It was clear that no consensus was being made, and players wanted answers and were clearly frustrated, as were most of us.
  • We want to get this out of the way, and start focusing on improving the server in whatever way we can, and bringing the community together.
  • As far as doing a full reset, vs moving structures, it became clear that left too much room for abuse, and also wasn’t fair to be judging what was worthy or not to be moved. Hard work is hard work whether it results in something super impressive or not. Everyone cares about their builds. We didn’t want to add more potential drama to the situation.
  • There are people who disagree with this decision, but that is true of either option, so we’re just going to have to live with the fact that not everyone will be happy about this, but we hope you can at least understand our point of view, and maybe try to find the upsides. This was not easy for us.

I just want to wish luck and love to TWiTCraft and it's future. If this is what is best for the server then of course I give it my blessing.

However, it leaves no place for me in the world so I won't be joining you all in this new TWiTCraft future. I have very much enjoyed my time with most of you here and wish you all the best. Please continue to enjoy and support the server as it's namesake is a company that I love very much.

Enjoy!

[MOD EDIT] While we were aware of the nature of the last part of this post, we left it in hopes of not sparking something worse, but we've got actual reports about it, so I'm going to edit it out for off-topic attacks of a personal matter, that had been brought up quite a while ago elsewhere. Tempers may be high, but this thread is not the place for that -blendermf

People are hurting right now, and things may be said that are directly reacting to that hurting. I hope this thread can create a discussion about The Decision to Reset and not anything more personal.

I know that we are in the hands of those who actually DO the work ... I want to try to be adult about this... the decision isnt my personal preference. Nothing has actually been done yet.. This is an opportunity to try to deal with the decision, and perhaps to discuss and amend that decision.

Let the games begin.

To all the people who feel hurt, I feel your pain.
Home, where my thought’s escaping
Home, where my music’s playing
Home, where my love lies waiting
Silently for me

Wow, I would have never thought this would happen. It's going to be hard seeing the map and all of the builds that people worked soo hard on, just go "Poof". But timber I am going to miss you more than our map reset. You have always been there when I had a question and you were always happy to help me. I hope we can still keep in touch. It was nice playing on TWiTCraft with you buddy :)

I can respect this. I'm not very happy to see all of the builds that have been amassed over the year go, but, meh. For the best or not, I am mostly for the clean reset. Now I do have two questions: Is there any possibility that the builds that have been voted on can come to the new world? If we make another poll with the most popular decided builds and get everybody to vote, then it should minimize butthurt, be completely fair and also bring a little bit of this world to the next one. Not much, but just enough to make everyone smile when they walk past it. -Edit- Or the museum world thing would work.
Question 2: How exactly will we be making the new cities around the map? Obviously, the mod city will be made with world edit and creative mode, just like Leoville spawn (looks great, btw). What about the rest of the cities? Until people get the supplies built up to make a good, pretty town hall and infrastructure, are we just SOL, or will there be a short creative time period to get the basics of the basics of the city done (and creative only given to a very select few players). And another thing, assuming creative is given for this reason, will there be a short Beta, demo, whatever you want to call it time where the server is whitelisted so that only the people actually working on the new cities can enter? (I'm honestly fine with either way of making the cities. Just look at Sky 5. I'm just curious)

I lied. I have three questions. Another thing with the cities: So there will be about three cities at the start of map, correct? Something that I think would be very beneficial for older players, the younger players and for the slowing of derptropy (derp-entropy) would be a "Freebuild" city. Hopefully it will act somewhat like uek's Redstone City and SWfan's Acadiana, but be more successful because it has a stargate linked to it. Just have a nice city/town for people to go in and get a cobble box up.
Last question for this post, I swear: Mayors or no mayors? Will mayors be elected on a monthly basis? Blah blah, I'd just like a better idea of how the mayor thing will go down and I'd love to see this discussed more.

As for Timber and Freon, I have considered both of you good friends and I hate to see you go. You've helped me with projects, put up with me on my first few weeks of the server, given me inspiration, lived with my pumpkin pranks, and have just been good people to talk to. I thank and will miss both of you, and I hope to see you occasionally come on the new server, if just to say hi. You've helped Twitcraft become what it is and all of us thank you for it =)

I am excited for a reset. Starting out fresh I want to do something like Legida. Just be able to build and not worry so much about money. I think anything you do people are going to love, hate or be some where in the middle of it. I too will miss Timber and Freon if they decide to leave. Not to be off topic; Tsc as a player I had not issues with but his focused harassment and disrespect towards Timber always bothered me. I thought more could have been done early on before it got too far out of hand.

I Think This is A Good Point for me to say with the 1.7 Reset I will step down as Head of DOT, The reason very simple I know I will not be able to put the time into gather and rebuild the rail system.

Well I want to post a big thank you to the mods for coming to such a hard decision and letting the community know of it with enough time to let folks be prepared. As for Timber and Freon, you will be missed and I can understand your decision(s) for leaving. That being said I am really excited about this decision, though I hope that maybe the current twitcraft server will become a museum world after the 1.7 world goes live. Again thanks for coming to a decision and now working forward with it!

Any way a copy of the world can be made as it is right now? Just in case people decide to start destroying their builds.

guys I might be new to the server but I have been running my own private server since march of 2013 and I keep that up to date every revision of the server/client that comes out. so my feeling towards TwitCraft being reset to 0 is great thing new is always good at the server level in my humble opinion.

Yes, Curley did a full backup of the world today for just that reason.

A Quick Question
with the server reset. is the WHOLE server being reset like the lobby to flatland and chatcraft and stuff or just the survival map? if just the survival map then why not make that third portal, the former "creative" map, a view and walk around only original twitcraft map, much like the old <> fertalized map?

I just want to say that i fully support the decision for a full server reset! :D Yes it will be sad to see a world filled with such history and memories go but i feel new things are to come with a fresh map that would be hard if not impossible with the present map.

I do hope however that the world will still be accessible by a portal similar to how Chatcraft is now. Not editable but a museum world where people receive creative to fly to their favorite builds.

As for the lobby i feel that needs a change too. It would be nice if long term players with design skills get to take part in its makeover. :) It will provide a good first impression of what the server community is capable of to new players!

My hope for the reboot is possibly certain longtime players get a fresh start. Their old mischief put behind them. Yes they have been bad players at times but i can assure you certain ones are NOT a "bad person" and I believe it can reflect in game if given the chance. Not my decision but i hope its considered. ;)

I'm glad to see this decision. I think I might try to take a little break from Minecraft until the server is running 1.7.

For those of you long-timers leaving, I hope you stop by occasionally after the reset. You helped build this community. You deserve our respect and friendship, despite what may have happened in the past.

I agree with Geo that the lobby needs a refresh. It should be more like survival spawn.

Edit: When the reset happens could we send an email to the members of the forum letting them know "Hey come back and join us in a fresh new world". I think a reminder could bring back quality members. If they have registered to the forums at one point they were probably a fairly dedicated player.

For the new lobby, how does an "orbital" or "sky" station sound? Portals would be used to get down to the cities on the surface. Just a thought.

About the lobby, yeah, we'll be redoing that (it says that in the details, but I guess it does say 'potentially'). I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

As for sending an email out, idk. That could probably happen.

As for keeping this world around in a read-only fashion, we have discussed that, and that might happen. We don't really seem to have any particular objections to it.

Like many others, I will be sad to see my builds go. I am however very excited to start fresh in 1.7 and have many builds in mind for the future. It will be sad not to have Timber, Freon and maybe other long time members along for the ride, but I think the new start will be exciting and am very much looking forward to it! Thanks to the mods for coming to a decision!
