It is important to keep in mind that it may still take a long time for server-side software and plugins that Twitcraft uses, such as Spigot, to update to 1.7 and to an acceptable level of stableness (especially considering network code has been rewritten).
I'm expecting the 1.7 bukkit/spigot releases to be late again this time. From the changelog: "Completely rewrote how the network (multiplayer) works."

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
The good thing is "completely rewrote network (multiplayer)" means they switched from notch coding to netty witch is what spigot already has been using. Bad side is, lord knows what dinnerbone "dinnerboned" in that process. Plugins have had plenty of time to upgrade, the trouble as always will be with "dead" plugins, ones that have worked just fine but haven't been touched in mostly a year, that's where I come in to spend hours trying and stress testing things before I approve them for live. One good thing about the reset is I won't have to deal with my usual fear and backup procedure of deleting the world, your shops, or your money!

Well this is a bummer! I have been playing TWiTcraft for a while now (However im still new to some of you) and I hope that i'll be able to download this map. I had gotten fairly far in the world and would possible (with your permission) be able to host the world on my own server so that anyone can enjoy it! I would protect it so no one can break anything and so we can all still remember what TWiTcraft was. Now that said, I am very excited that you guys will be upgrading to 1.7 but will you guys do it right away or will you wait for plugins to play catchup?. I know that I will be upgrading my client to 1.7.2 tomorrow so I would love to have a new server by no later that Saturday. maybe.
I will miss all the mods that are leaving even though I have never been able to play with them
I would have loved to chat with you guys!
Also will Chad be on more with the server reset? It would be an honor to play with him!
Thank you TWiTcraft!

i can see wanting to download the server map for personal use but to host it when it is going to be on as a "read only" map after the reset seems a little redundant.

To be fair, if he didn't read the whole thread, he may not have seen that we are doing that. I think I'll add it to the original post.

Oh, also I forgot to respond to some things specifically in this post (other than us still hosting a read-only version of the old map). We are waiting for spigot and plugins. We have to or else we have no protection against anything, and a lot of things just in the world affecting normal world operation relies on plugins (like stargates/portals). This could take a while.
Just make a separate profile for 1.6. The new launcher makes using multiple versions super easy. I currently have multiple servers on different versions that I play on (one already on 1.7, the prerelease at least).

Good catch, I would like to further this idea. WorldBorder has a "fill" command which would allow the server to completely generate chunks up to the world border. I think Curley should dedicate a whole day or two before (re-)opening the server for 1.7 to:
- Generate the survival map up to the WorldBorder using the above command
- Do a full DynMap render of the survival map
Doing the above will:
- Prevent lag from opening day and in future from chunks being generated in unexplored land
- Will provide a fresh, unbroken and full map on the get go*
- Make it easier to find and judge locations for potential cities, both official and unofficial
* Devil's advocate: Providing a full map on the get go may detract from the exploration experience and may allow for players to dominate a resource, e.g. villagers or witch huts. Discuss?

I like this. I don't think that villages would be dominated by a single player or group. And even if they are, it is extremely easy (In my mind, easier) to get a good setup with villagers cured from zombies, rather than leading them from a village and to a designated place. Witch huts though... I don't know. In my head, I can only image of four or five players that would actually jump on a witch hut to do something with it. I'd say that the pros outweigh the cons, but here's a little pitch that I threw together:
Set the world limit extremely small for the first, oh, two weeks that the 1.7 map is up. Say about 2000 blocks in any direction. (Assuming that we put cities 1000 blocks away from 0,0, this'll give a bit of room to expand the cities.) In the third week of the map, expand the border by 500. Next month, another 500. Month after that, another 500. (These are just example numbers.) Keep doing this on whatever time basis until the world border is at a decent size (3-4000)
I'm honestly not terribly fond of this, as I'm one of those people that just likes living way out at the corner of the world, away from everyone else. Every time the world border expands, I'd probably move with it
Or we could just set the world limit at a reasonable size, let players grab the huts, villages and temples, and every update expand the border by a few hundred blocks.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
I wont lie, this does feel a little bit like a punch to the gut. One of the reasons I joined TWiT Craft was because I wanted a home in Minecraft to return to when I felt like playing.
I spent a long time building up resources, planning my house on my plot, and building a storage space.
I can understand why this needs to happen, and I probably knew at some point it would happen. But the idea of starting from scratch is hard.
I will try to get on, pick a plot in a city, and will build a little home, (resource worlds will help with this) but not sure if I will build up storage supplies, or put as much work into my next house. Who knows what changes will come in 1.9 or 2.0 which will require another do over.
Thank you to all the people who make this server happen, and keep it going. BlenderMF, Curley, T2T2, Asim0v etc etc

Interesting idea; I myself like the numbers used (base 2000, 500 increments up to 4000) but each increment would most likely require a downtime of 24+ hours to fill and dynmap the new chunks. That process could be left out for the expansions... but may make the original intent of the idea moot. Still, could be a good call. I would agree also though that, on the pre-generation idea, the pros outweigh the cons.

Indeed. A big Thanks to those of you that have made this server work since april 2012. I am sad to be forced by this "punch to the gut" (at least I had a clue it might be coming!) to choose to create my own server environment in order to have the reliability of keeping builds around for more than a year or two. I always assumed (my fault in making assumptions) that TWiTCraft would always take care of its regulars and their builds ... even with a reset. As it wont be possible for me to share any of the builds I will be working on via making them in the TWiTCraft world, I'll try to post some pics occasionally via the forum. I was inspired by many of you. Thanks for that also.

i am sad to see the world go, dont get me wrong. i have no good builds on twitcraft.
one quick question: does this mean we get the horses we want FREE, or do we still have to buy it?

I am eager to see what the new reset does given I have been gone for a bit anyways...might be nice for everyone to have a fresh start but as long as all my pals are still on here then I will return..its the reason I play twitcraft in the first place!

If you find the horse first, yeah. If it has already been claimed, then you have to buy it.

I am a newbie. And it is because of that I may more excited about this than most of you guys. When I first joined the server I was confronted with a massive city full of derelict shops and abandoned projects. When I decided to build my own project it was almost impossible to find land. So yeah I would like to see a server reset. I mean at the heart of it isn't the building supposed to be the fun part anyway. I mean this as no disrespect, But lets use the opportunity to build a new even more awesome server and if you ever get nostalgic you can always go visit your old house.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
As one of the oldest continuous players on TWiTCraft, and probably one of the most disappointed by a reset, frankly briteshadow, you don't get it. When you work on a build/home for over a year (gathering resources, digging out a basement, etc) and you aren't even done with your vision yet, but somehow suddenly the "community" has decided: "Guess what? You dont get to finish your build, and we are going to make it so you can't even live there anymore." .... It sucks. I want to finish my home and then live in it. To start over from scratch as a reset will force, it would require another year maybe to gather all the materials and redo the work that has already been done just to get back to the same spot as now ... which is still a ways away from being finished. Just ... no. Im out.
Those of us that dream of big projects deserve better than to have our unfinished work frozen for "visitation only." If it was a little home that I had finished 6 months ago and took a week or two to make, I wouldn't care so much. But not all of us play small.
