Re: What's Happening with 1.7
I'm kind of sad. I'll still play but I don't think I'll be able to put the time into it that was able to over the last 2 years
I just don't want this to be the end of twit craft as we know it.
When I was 17 I ran a good size dial up BBS (bulletin board system. 2 nodes! FTW) One day I lost the Hard drive I ran the system on. Go way every message and every uploaded file that all my users put so much time into. When they connected in after I put a new BBS up it was never the same. user-ship dropped off. it limped along for another year and died a slow death.
Some of the death could be due to the popularity of the internet at that time. (1994-1997)
But the "server reset" didn't help. If I could have avoid it I would have. The world might have been a slightly different place.
For the young ones
A bbs was a computer you called with a phone modem. UN like a cable modem a dial up modem connected directly with another server. it was all text based with some text based graphics . you could upload and download files. chat with a user on the other node or use the forum system like this. in the later days some BBs's had internet E-mail and some of them started to become internet service providers . Mine was always free. Some charged money. phone lines cost a lot more back then.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
I must admit, I was pretty anti-reset, even though I do not have any builds that could be called "significant", I have put together a pretty good set of resources.
After reading this thread, I am not so against it. If all of the improvements that are mentioned are implemented, then a new map might be quite exciting, as well as the opportunity to get in on the ground floor (and maybe build a few other floors) on a level playing field with everyone else.
So .. bring on 1.7! I'm in!

Back in my first days it was a penny a minute, which didn't seem so bad when you say it like that, but three hours a night, 90 hours a month, added up to a whacking great phone bill at the end of the quarter. So we logged in with our whiny little 14.4 modems, downloaded the new threads, logged off, read and replied, then logged in again to upload the replies...
It was a crime to waste bandwidth... signatures were limited to three lines and spam was a capital offence. Huge ascii pictures in your signature were enough to get you banned from the group.
Netiquette was significant then. In some ways those days were good, but thank goodness I no longer have to hide the phone bill.

Hey, I just want to know when the download for the old map will be available, I never got to completely explore the whole map and would like to.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
This is something that won't probably happen for a few months you should have plenty of time too still explore.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
We should encourage people not to destroy their builds in advance or in protest.

1. I like this idea. Thank you.
2. I think stargates are a great way to travel city-to-city!
3. I want to build a city. :3 Or at least help!
4. What if we put old leoville in a separate lobby, like the creative world, but set it to adventure mode? Would that take up too much space?
5. How will the initial infrastructure and transportation grid be built? Will it cause the server to go down for a while?
6. How will it look? I wanna know!! lol
But seriously, I really think this is a good thing, to restart once in a while. I can't wait, and hopefully it'll get me to be more active again.
As long as school doesn't get in the way, that is.

.
We should have a memorial for old Leoville in new Leoville.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
I agree and love the decision to set the map with the release of version 1.7. The changes in the game coupled with the limited size of the twitcraft map have justified this decision for some time. I love the old map (having spent much time building roads and landscaping established road ways) so it will hurt to see it go. It is why I also think it would be a great send off to have some kind of weird world ending event in the survival map. It could and should bring in old players once last time to wish the map well before the reset.
With that being said I will not be logging into and working on the new map. I love the server and wish it the best but this will be the point where I jump off. Will I be back to the server? Eventually but I need to remove the time sink that is twitcraft from my life for a long while.
It is my hope that some other new player will take on the thankless and OCD job of building roads and tunnels that reach far out into the wild. =]

This is just an idea but it might be cool to build multiple cities and have rail ways connecting all of them, again just an idea

Why read only?

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
Because then people (like me) would live on the old map rather than play on the new one. I am a bad example because I am glued to my house. Without it, I stop playing. But others wouldn't make the transition to the new map either.
Re: What's Happening with 1.7
I strongly agree with what the mods decided on but I hate to see Timber and Freon go I hope they will join us again for another exciting adventure......

Thanks 5murg.
I will miss you guys very much but as I have told others, there are two things that make me happy on TWiTCraft: 1: the community, 2: my home that I dreamed up in 2011 and made (the citadel). I must have both to keep playing. Since I am losing one with the reset, then off I go. Freon feels the same about his airfield that he worked so hard making. Personally, reset = game over. Time for some Planetary Annihilation!
Re: What's Happening with 1.7
In the past we have discussed switching to a better Sign Shop equivalent plugin. Might be a good time to try this and maybe look at the other plugins we currently use.

We had discussed moving to Crafty (by the makers of Prism) when it was released in the spring of 2013. Alas, it has not yet been released. So if anyone has any suggestions, please make them.

Re: What's Happening with 1.7
This has come quicker than I personally thought it would, but 1.7 pre-release is out now and if it goes well, full Minecraft 1.7 may come out this friday. See https://mojang.com/2013/10/minecraft-1- ... the-world/
It is important to keep in mind that it may still take a long time for server-side software and plugins that Twitcraft uses, such as Spigot, to update to 1.7 and to an acceptable level of stableness (especially considering network code has been rewritten).
