TWiTCraft Epic Wither Battle

Postby SkyerCorp » 09 Sep 2013, 15:24

Some parts in the overworld. Some parts in the end. Lots of devastation. Many brave warriors.

For some reason, imgur didn't take this picture in the first upload.

On a serious note: Who/whatever spawned those withers caused a lot of damage in West Leoville. I hope someone looks into how this happened and what can be done to prevent it in the future.

What he said.. what hurts the community, hurts me. The wreckage from these Wither attacks has damaged a lot of property. I abhor this.

I have seen the damage myself whilst attempting to assist with reports of left over withers. Seriously uncool, there is just too much damage in separate survival areas (and The End) to, I imagine, rollback quickly.

As much as I enjoy a little variety every now and then, logging back in face to face with a wither is seriously uncool. Damage caused by withers will take a lot of repairs, and if it was one mod doing it, it's disrespectful to the other mods that have to deal with the modreqs and complaints this incident caused. My two cents.

Two images I got (album below):

From these you can see a wither trashing a home on the survival map and also an obviously worldedited section removed from the survival end (cut out bedrock section from the return portal). It seems that someone decided to rampage around, spawn 2-4 withers and other mobs in the survival world, thrash the end, spawn 6-8 withers there, and run off leaving us to clean up the mess (kill the withers) as best as we can. Although exciting and fun, these actions did cause A LOT of damage to many different builds and killed several players.

We're aware of this issue, and are actively working on it. It was not a mod.

We'll have more details eventually.

Crappy, crappy thing to have happen.

Who else but a mod can do that?

Aw this is sad. I didn't know it was so serious. And just when I was having such a fun time meeting you all. I hope it gets cleared up soon! Hang in there, those of you whose property was destroyed :(

Update:

So someone used the recent authentication exploit from the vanilla code to log in as a mod. We have since updated to a version of spigot that fixes this exploit. Working on fixing the changes.

I'll just take a moment to apologize here to Cheetozzz. It was not his fault. My sincere apologies for anything I have done to make cheetozzz feel that I am blaming him for a massive disruption to our world. I assumed at first that it was something that he caused due timing and to the initial jokey nature of some of the spawning I came across, and that the only person I have seen that had access to using chad's login on twitcraft was cheetozzz, and that cheeetozz logged in and out of mumble for 3 min right before we started finding wither spawn. I should not have leaped to the conclusion that he was to blame for the wither fight shown in the screenshots. Once it became apparent that there was massive damage to our economy introduced and several huge sections of the world removed via world edit, the "jokeyness" of the event vanished and it became obvious that someone was either upset or cruel. This was something that felt surprising. I would not expect any of this type of behavior from any of our admins/mods and I know that I was confused that someone with that level of access would do such a thing. My apologies again cheetozzz. No one should have been blamed. My only explanation is that we could not understand how someone with moderator privileges could be doing all that so I at first I assumed that it was another joke from the powers that be that have been known to do large scale jokes ... not a griefer who figured out an exploit to gain moderator status.

I also will apologize unreservedly to Cheeto... at the time, the circumstantial situation pointed directly to his name, but I understand now that he was chasing some suspected grief, so his coming into mumble and twitcraft right at that time was just a wild although not totally unrelated coincidence.. We were all totally shocked that someone cause such havoc as a prank.... we were all discussing in mumble how on earth this could be happening.... so our suspicions were VERY reluctant, but the situation did look very odd.

We all believed that only a mod could have done it.... now we know better... lesson learned.. sorry Cheeto.
