Spamming

Postby Edgemerian » 20 Aug 2013, 06:05

First off, I fully acknowledge that I'm a cranky old man, so I might be out of line here..

Can we tighten up the spammer-kicker to boot anyone who posts the same message more than two times in a row? The other night my chat window consisted of:

<person 1>: does anyone want to buy a house for 400c?
<person 1>: does anyone want to buy a house for 400c?
<person 2>: does anyone want a house for 390c?
<person 1>: does anyone want to buy a house for 400c?
<person 3>: selling a house for 350c
<person 3>: selling a house for 350c
<person 1>: does anyone want to buy a house for 400c?
<person 2>: does anyone want a house for 390c?

...again, I'm mean and cranky, so maybe it's just me.

When the spam filter gets ratcheted up players complain. When it gets turned down players complain. There is no winning. There was another thread on the forums of players complaining about the spam warnings. Anyway, I'll link Curley to this and see if there is anything he can do or if he changed anything recently.

Pro tip: /ignore playername will ignore them in general chat.

In my spare time I've been trying to configure the filter and haven't had much luck. We obviously need one but I seem to be unable to get the numbers just right. If anyone wants to tackle it I'd love the help.

In the config file there's a whole section about he weight and factors regarding repeat posts. Again, I just can't seem to get the values right.

I ignored a few of the kids who kept walking on my lawn, but then when people are talking to them it's like listening to one side of a phone conversation; and it eats at my brain, so I had to unignore everyone again.

Pro-Tip: If they're consistently talking to someone you've already /ignore'ed, you probably want to go ahead and /ignore them too. ;)

True that. I wish I could just turn off general most times while I am building and only get private messages. I installed tabby-chat and that makes it better but it still shows an alert when a message is sent in the general tab.

Pro-tip: If the chat is starting to annoy you, you need to replace your favorite adult beverage with a fresh cold one.

Not sure if I set the permissions up properly for this but people should be able to leave and join global as they see fit /ch leave global I think. If the perms aren't right ill get to it in the morning. On that note I think I set it up so you can arbitrarily make your own chats, with its own color and even a password. /ch create or something. Plugin is called herochat. Google up the bukkit dev page. Again, will add perms if not configure like that.

Can confirm that permissions are not set for: create, leave, info

This would be nice for something like trivia, so that I do not need to invade everybody elses' conversation :P
