Leoville Home Owners
So Leoville is becoming laggier. I think we as players can improve this without the mods having to come in and lay down the law. We can discuss and come up with a recommended list of building codes for Leoville to reduce lag. Such a list would be unofficial and no not everyone would go along with it. However it would improve knowledge about causes of lag and make it easier for players who do want to play well with everyone to have a simple list to refer to.
So what do you think? What are the biggest lag concerns and what do you think should be allowed or prohibited in Leoville lots, and to what extent? For example if you feel signs are a concern and should be limited how many per lot would you suggest?
This is also a good place to post your lag woes. I average 5 fps in East Leoville, how about you?

Re: Leoville Home Owners
If I recall correctly the largest culprits for the "lag" you speak of are chests and signs. Maybe just sign shop signs? Things that apparently use a lot of local resources when loaded. I remember swearing up and down people had to be crazy about the flea market lag cause my computer had no issues ever there, my eyes were opened when I try to play near there on my crappy laptop and I couldn't move for 10 mins just for looking at that area.
Re: Leoville Home Owners
It's the signs and chests causing the lag. I'll go ahead and give the unpopular option: ban shops and limit chests in Leoville.
Doing this would promote the shop communities outside of Leoville (that have pretty much become ghost towns now) and promote non-laggy structures on Leoville Plots. A trade-off for not allowing shops in Leoville could to be to make the rent cheaper.

Yes, signs and chests are to blame. Unfortunately, people only seem to want to setup shops in Leoville. Can't have the shops without those signs.

Do we know if its just the chests and signs in general or the interaction with the sign shop plugin (making them colorized and dynamic maybe?) that causes the issue. While I hate to jump to banning something from paid property unfortunately this issue isn't server lag that I can fix, it's all in the client and affects everyone differently usually dependent on their hardware, given that we really should foster at least a mostly playable environment around spawn for the baseline majority of our players computers to handle. Then again where do we draw the line, I know some of our players can't even play when it's raining, do we turn spawn into a desert biome? :-/

Signs are to blame for the client side lag in Leoville, I get 6-9 fps in that area.
Optifine helps, it disables the rendering of text on signs that are not near you.
I also get similar lag at the Flea Market and the Mirage Mall, interesting to note both areas have long outlawed chests. Also, pre-1.6 I had no lag in those areas, I'm assuming 1.6 renders signs at a greater distance.
Lag at spawn will have to be tolerated if we are going to allow shops in Leoville.

Yes, it's just chests and signs in general. Someone could just make a hundred plain signs, and it would cause FPS lag.
