View topic - How often does the resource world reset? And revisiting...

I do not know much about the resource world or what goes on with it and I was wondering does it reset? And if so how often? Because I was just in the resource world today and all I saw was explored territory. Also the survival world is like that two, all I see is marked off land and houses and random people's houses. All I'm saying is it may be time to start a new beggining. I'm not saying reset the world now I'm having a lot of fun building my village, but eventually I think there should be a new map... :idea:

The new resource reset schedule has been decided to be anywhere from the first to the fifth of the month, depending on how busy Curley is. You can still find unexplored/unclaimed land in both resource and survival if you go out far enough.
As for resetting survival... unless the mods are willing to go through, world edit and paste every single person's builds to a new map, and have everybody willing to try to re-breed the villagers, horses, etc. that can't just be "put back," I don't think that's going to happen. (Or at least I hope it won't.)
If there's land you want, check with a mod to see how long it's been since the owner has been on and if it's up for grabs, or talk with the owner and see if you can work out a price.

To rehash what's been stated elsewhere. Survival will never be reset unless our hand is forced by mojang. I take pride in the fact that the map is still alive.

Resource is schedule to reset on the first but as stated above, I forget/am busy sometimes. Hit me up on twitter and its usually enough poke to get me to do it.

There's plenty of unexplored land still in survival. Use the dynmap or ask around with some of the kids that run the rails, I see new little bastions of civilization popping up all the time.

so .... just as an idea, Curley, is there any chance of ever expanding the 5K from spawn world border a bit? like just a little? maybe 500 blocks on all sides? It would be fun to explore new survival terrain and actually render some horse chunks

We are exploring some solutions to the horse spawning issue.

I agree,when I joined it did not take long to find somewhere to set up camp, and that was without using the rails.

Although it would be good to have some better guidance for new players to end up in one of those new civilisations (a /warp build) type concept (there is another thread on this).

The significant amount of empty land is an issue as it can be annoying for new players (e.g. All of the empty Leoville lots and fenced areas in the inner suburbs - we should manage these better to ensure the land "owner" is still active.

I agree with HGL. I got lucky and found a place not too far from spawn, but was a lot of work to get set up (still a work in progress, really).

Expanding survivals is not out of the cards at all. It was an arbitrary number along the lines of "hey what should the border be?" "5k sound good?" "Ok!" We're not wont of hard drive space but I'm still waiting for something really "special" from mojang before I throw my hat into the ring for new land. Their current offerings haven't really been compelling.
