Town Hall to continue or end? / Server kick start.

Postby thesillychicken » 25 Jun 2013, 12:17

Hey guys I wanted your input on what we should do with Town Hall. Right now I'm open to keeping it around but the community of TWiTCraft has died down a lot so much so that the server isn't getting updated like it should. I'm open to ideas about how we can kick start Town Hall again but at this time it's a bear in hibernation that isn't ready to be awaken. Please leave suggestions below.

first things first and this is obvious we need to update the server. second we need to do special events like the parkour and pig races (maybe even horse races after 1.6) and also maybe lower the price of some of the more expensive things (diamonds)

Server Update ... Awesome!
Parkour Events ... Awesome!
Pig/Horse Races ... Awesome!
Geocache/Treasure Hunts (with prizes) ... Awesome!
Lowering the cost of diamonds .... ummm ... let me think ... Never!
(The economy pricing in game has little/nothing to do with player retention. If people need diamonds they can either pay what shops charge or go dig em up like we all do)

I'm all for more parkour, races, treasure hunts and maybe the occasional build-off in creative. As for the update... swfan, uekitree, are the new player areas up yet?

Yes, especially considering the server isn't on the latest client version. Most players just update to the newest version, they don't bother with a launcher to manage versions.

The basic infrastructure in Acadiana is in place (rail station, basic shops, nether portal, etc.). It's just waiting for players to head out there and start building. As for the Vieux Carré District - there are several small apartments available, meant for new players to use as a starting place as they get familiar with the server and/or scout out a spot to build their own place. The District itself is still very much under construction, but several buildings are complete. I'm gladly accepting any assistance in land clearing and/or construction and it's a good source for free cobblestone and the like. If you're interested in helping, let me know. The biggest problem with getting these areas up and running is the lack of new players.

And while I've enjoyed playing on the server as is, I must admit that I'm a little anxious to get updated.

I'm willing to bet that that problem will be fixed when we update.

As for the diamond thing... coincidence? More than likely. As nfair said, most people update as soon as the there is a new version.

I would agree with the others in saying that the problem is possibly the servers lack of an update..soon we will be behind by a whole number..that and the summer happening isn't going to help at all..which is mildly encouraging to the state of the world..but I digress..more special events on the server would keep me coming back..when I'm not busy with an insane experiment or mining something that someone ordered I find myself sometimes going..now what?

but srsly guys, I know I'm super behind on this. It shouldn't be excused but forgive me a little for lagging due to my recent apartment move. Still trying to settle into a new schedule and whatnot. Should happen soon! I have everything ready just need to get on it.

I think curley you should have a set maintenance time like warn everyone a day or 2 before like some servers do. Like "TWiTCraft will be down for maintenance on -Insert day and time here-" I find that will help some users plan their play schedule.

I'm in the same boat, somewhat. I just moved in last week and I still have a few projects going myself :glances at the remote desktop session on his iPad he's using to monitor his Drobo rebuild:. I thought I would have time once I moved, but it's taken a while to get settled.

I have found that I am having trouble getting motivated to log in when I do have time lately as well. If I had to put a finger on it, I'd say it's a combo of the lack of players (10 to 15-player evenings are not as prevalent as they used to be) and a general lack of community. The population number will most likely be solved by the eventual server update. The lack of community - players coming together as a family and cooperating together - is a bit harder to fix and we've discussed this topic before. I think regularly scheduled, well-planned events with plenty of advance notice will help this some. Getting the newer players into the forums will help as well.

I still believe that a Survival map reset followed by PvP and the other things I have mentioned previously would be a lot more fruitful in the long run in building a community and maintaining a population of players. I've hijacked enough threads, however, and we're not here to talk about that. We can start another thread if you're curious about my forced community-building initiatives. ;)

I think, since we're either not available or don't have anything major to discuss at the moment, we should just put the Town Hall on summer hiatus. I don't think we need to stop having them altogether, just take a month or two off so that we actually have information to discuss when the Town Hall comes back. Instead of starting Twitter feeds, calendars, podcasts, etc. I'd rather funnel any players currently looking for information/discussion into the forum so we can start building the community here instead of dispersing it all across the Internet and thus diluting the content.

Still think we should use different forum software like http://www.enjin.com/ that has more functionality.

I like the test you did, TSC, and if this forum was imported into that format I'd be cool with it. As I said in IRC, I like the integrated chat and gallery tabs plus a tab devoted to the rules.

SW - "Sober" is a scary state of being. That's why I try to avoid it as much as possible... ;)

(I make plenty of cogent arguments - I just usually mix them in with rants about commies/craft beer and feint unidirectional outrage to throw you guys off my scent. We can't have you thinking I'm TOO respectable of a citizen, can we?)
