PA, Why not just get a cheap 3 or 4 tb external drive in addition to the raid tower? Just make a copy of the drobo/raid tower onto it and then keep it at a friends place. I have one at my moms house that I bring home 4 times a year to refresh the data on it (on each solstice and equinox) and then bring back to her house. If that drive fails, no biggie to replace but if I ever (god forbid) have a fire, ill be happy to have it as most of my data will be saved.

Well, multiple issues due to my impatience/weeding out almost 1 TB of data I didn't want/need and now I'm finally copying files to the Drobo. I'm using an older Mac Mini as a file server connected to the Drobo via Firewire 800. The backup data is unfortunately on a hard drive connected via USB...

EDIT 2: And it's down to 4 days now... Hopefully it'll drop some more. I'm avoiding my desk for fear that I might bump something and screw up the file transfer (lots of temp cables in the foot region).

EDIT 3: Not sure if I posted this here or not, but here's a pic of my Ikea desk: http://i.imgur.com/odTbdFu.jpg. Just imagine that setup with more cables going across the front and leading to an external hard drive. I would have made it more user-friendly, but it was 3am and I was tired.
