Skype and Horses
Skype for TownHall:
I've been listening tot he past town halls and well the audio just plain sucks! Not due to sucky mics or internet connection. Just the fact that mumble doesn't push out good enough audio for a show. So for this month's Town Hall I would like to use skype or google hangouts. Now some of you guys are gonna cry about oh your limiting the audience blah blah blah. How I see it's easy to get Skype just like mumble. Now why do i want to make the switch First off for audio, second better control on who everyone is, third file transfers duh! So this way i can send everyone the final script what have you.
Horses:
Some of you may know that horses are coming to Minecraft. But it comes with a hitch we have to gen new chunks. Most of you know poor old survival is pretty much 100% gened. Now some of you may think oh I'll just got to resource world and get one! And none of you want to have the main map reset. Now how Multiverse portals work is that animals can only moved around with the corresponding worlds of that map. So you can't go to resource world and bring your animals to survival since they are different worlds. You only can bring them to the end or nether within that world. So what I would like to have seen done is the selling of horse spawn eggs in the server store this would get rid of the need to regen the map etc. Pricing is really up to the mods but i would like to see a price between 100-500 coins. That way they expensive but not too expensive.
Leave you comments down below. Any harassment will be reported to authorities (and no not the mods more like the police).

Re: Skype and Horses
Skype: I think you went about selling your argument the wrong way. "We're doing it my way because you're lazy and whiney and I said so" rarely convinces anyone and usually opens up a flame war because it's understandably insulting. You may wish to go back and edit your original post to convince opponents that your position is the correct one sans the thinly-veiled insults.
Horses: I'd love a general Survival reset with the possibility of importing certain builds to the new map, personally, but this sounds like a reasonable compromise. 100 coins would be a good price as well.

100c for a horse seems low. That's less than two days worth of collecting ATM. I would lean closer to 500 or more. When you use a horse egg it spawns an untamed horse correct? Mods could also just bomb the map with horse eggs too to create some what of a natural population. Since you can probably transfer ownership like other pets people could sell then for twit marts price.

Re: Skype and Horses
I like the idea of the mods (or delegated group) seeding the horses - sounds like a fun activity - being the creator!

Re: Skype and Horses
I have no problem with the audio from mumble personally I can tell that the quality is not the best, I think moving to skype will loose one element form the town hall which I think is the most important the groupe discussions when other people can discuss their views on a topic since this is a community thing and not a podcast I am happy just to stick to mumble. If not then something like Google hangouts where we can live strem it and people not invited can comment in real time and add to the discussion.

Re: Skype and Horses
i dont mind a change-over for town hall. i have 2 other voice chat programs i have not bothered to uninstall even though the appropriate games those guilds were on are gone from my pc. and i forget which one is for my pathfinder guild.
i have a skype account buried somewhere...
i have not been to the town hall meetings in a bit, but in the case that i am this is what i agree with.
as for horses: i would liek a pony! pweeese?
i would be willing to pay.. a [undisclosed]bit of coins and try to talk myself to get back on the game, again

Re: Skype and Horses
It does really come down to if we have enough audiophiles that hate the sound of the town halls...since its not a podcast it doesn't bother me that much and I have been using mumble for some let's play vids that I do with dragon and I have no problem with it while I am a said audiophile..It may take a vote to decide this but if you do google hangouts then it seals I will never be able to come to a town hall again..my internet has to tolerance for them..

Re: Skype and Horses
Since I can't usually get to these things, I'll just put my two cents here; I would rather regen a map if it is not possible to bring horses from resource over to survival. It's too cheaty to sell spawn eggs, in my opinion.
One of these days Dinnerbone needs to redo the code so that the stuff that entity generation isn't as tied into the actual chunk loading data.

RE: Horses
Im confused. Wither Skeles were a new mob but they spawn just fine in nether fortress chunks that were generated in 1.2.5. Why will Horses be any different? If the server is 1.6 and there are plains biomes that meet the spawning requirements, why wouldn't horses simply start spawning there?

Hmmm that's a good point, I think they would spawn in the plains biomes, anyone test it to see if they will not spawn in a non-1.6 world?Timberwolf1777 wrote:RE: Horses

I spent a while in my old world, in a plains biome, but didn't see any horses. I did find a lot of chickens, though, in which I murdered to pass the time.

I think that hostile mobs including wither skeletons spawn and respawn all the time but breedable mobs (ever since they became breedable) only spawn once with the chunk. Once you kill wild cows they no longer spawn again you have to breed them to get more. I imagine the same would be true for horses.

Actually, I have had non-hostile breedable mods respawn after I killed them all, in my own survival map.

Re: Skype and Horses
Off the wiki:
Very rarely, new animals can spawn in already generated chunks, just like monsters do. When animals spawn in this way, they do so only on grass blocks with light level 9 or greater above them. This is also a requirement for animals spawning from monster spawners. Unlike monsters, animals do not spontaneously despawn, except for wild ocelots and wolves (which can despawn only when they are hostile).
Mob spawning
Mobs are broadly divided into four categories: hostile, friendly, water (i.e. Squid) and ambient (i.e. Bat). Hostile mobs have a spawning cycle once every game tick (1/20th of a second). Friendly and water mobs have only one spawning cycle every 400 ticks (20 seconds). Because of this, hostile mobs can spawn at any time, but animals spawn very rarely. Instead, most animals spawn within chunks when they are generated.
...
With horses having a despawning quality, they will be extremely hard to find and tame but they still should spawn (if only extremely rarely) in plains biomes in the survival world on TWiTCraft. A good idea for a player looking to spawn horses would be to make the area around him/herself non friendly to hostile mob spawning. Basically if every cave within the spawning range around the player and the ground surface are extremely well lit, this will deny hostile mob spawning and (from what i understand about spawning requirements) increase the chance that animals will spawn. Horses are going to be rare within that group but at least there should be a chance.

Re: Skype and Horses
And if it becomes too difficult to obtain I bet there will be a plugin within minutes named HorseGen.jar or something of the like that will solve the issue just like there was for emeralds, quartz and everything else added to the world generator.

Re: Skype and Horses
I know of a glitchy chunk that generates and collects animals at an astounding rate. Its pretty far from spawn but I'll check it out after 1.6 and see if i cant supply us some horses
For me, horses will be a fad/luxury item. They require too much work to be practical, and unlike a boat or minecart, you cant stick em in your pocket and cross worlds with them. I already utilize the nether roads and rail systems to get around survival quickly and effectively. Horses will most likely add travel time (in dealing with their storage, food, and protection) rather than save it, especially with the astoundingly comprehensive rail network Robro has created.
Saddles are pretty easy to come by. It seems like every dungeon has at least 1 and they are often left behind. With all that in mind, I know everyone (including me) will probably want one in full diamond armor just for the show off factor. The gambling addicts ... (cough cough PA) will probably make a race track too.
