Client lag?

Postby PumpHunter » 16 May 2012, 09:38

Any suggestions on how to cure client lag?

Allocating more memory doesn't seem to have much effect.

(I would prefer not modding the client)

Try OPTFine, It fixes a lot of the Minecraft issues. They have 3 versions depending on what you want.
it will definitely make a change.

But that's a mod of the client, right?

I've always wondered about that thing. Minecraft always reports huge FPS - so it seems odd that would be the problem.

yes it's a clientside mod. it not only fixes FPS but some other stuff that lags the game. Try it.

I'm running Optifine and still have lag issues. It's mostly framerate drops, probably from my ancient system trying to keep up. And if you use Magic Launcher, it's super easy to use Optifine and other mods.

Yeah, don't really feel like trying that hack.

And my framerates rarely drop below 80.

Oh well, we'll see.

I tried installing it.
But then I got a "bad login" everytime I tried to connect to the server..

So I reverted to the old version.

I use optifine just fine. I've also used mcpatcher. The main benefit i get from those client mods is the ability to allocate more memory for the client to use. As far as i know the vanilla client can only use 1gb of memory so when there's lots of stuff near you or tnt exploding those people get disconnected or error out even if the server stay up. I allocate 4gb's to java and can stand there and watch 1000's of tnt explode without disconnects nor do i rarely experience lag that others talk about.

Hm, yeah I did try allocating more memory for a while there, not sure how much it helped. But reports are contradictory, some people claim allocating more memory can cause other problems.
