all the things, and whatnot (portals and shops shtuff)
soooo ok, after a few hours of farting around with backups, reboots, whitelists, and jenkins test build diving we're ready to talk about some current issues.
first and foremost, we started with addressing the issue of portals transporting people into weird places as of the newest update, we weren't prepared for the rabbit hole it lead us down but here you go. enjoy.
At first reboot we found out that ever since the update, all additions to the database that holds the new enchanted items/player held enchanted items caused the server to crash in, oh i don't know, like 23 ways, just to be thorough. After lots of testing we found out that deleting those two items caused the server to not crash ALL the times ALL the things. Problem solved!...minus the, oh hey maybe, any shops you've added since that had data values will not be there or will act weird or maybe most likely will not be there anymore. please be careful with stuff you add now or stuff you check right now, i can't play test all the possible combinations of data at this point and am relying on you guys to tell me what does and doesn't work as expected. PLEASE don't be hesitant to tweet @curley!
after that random issue was addressed we got on to dealing with the issues of portals being all "cray cray"
currently, we still have our crack team of mods testing and playing around with what is causing our issues but given our current tests and what we've read we're pretty confident at this point we can point the blame at multiverse being not ready for the current version of bukkit, which is ultimately my fault, i usually don't update till all things are beyond a doubt ready but we've been very lucky as of late and i got cocky. while things seem to work on paper, things get wonkey after multiple uses. currently our best option is to just live alongside the issue till multiverse is updated. be aware that any travel through a portal is potentially a portal to your death! i will update the plugin and keep you guys updated as i acquire new info, but srsly, BE CAREFUL, is my only advice to you now.
Further details to follow as they are tested and uncovered.

Also just so it's noted, I'm keeping track of the nether portal bug and in contact with multiverse devs (you can probably find the issue in github). And now ipodparf with technical details!

WARNING!
This is a big chunk of text that may or may not make sense.
What is happening?
So... Because of the way the Nether works, an 8 block distance in the Overworld is a 1 block distance in the Nether. A portal that teleports you from the Overworld to the Nether will take your coords, divide them by 8, and find the closest portal to those coords. Multiverse, however, is just sending you directly to the converted coords. In this video, I enter t2's portal that sits at X:94, Y:107, Z:317, So we should end up at the portal closest to X:11, Y:107, Z:39. As you can see, we do end up there. I then enter the portal at nearly the same coords, but my Z is 40 (More specifically 40.76) instead of 39. This means that my Z in the Overworld would be 326 (40.7 * 8 = 326.08). In normal Minecraft, it would send me to the portal located at Z:317, but Multiverse will send me to a non existent portal at Z:326 because it believes this is a correct thing to do. This also means I will fall through the air since there is nothing below me. In this second video, You see me enter a portal at a Y level of 70. The nether portal that should go to this portal is at Y level 35, but the portal sends me to a set of coords that is 35 blocks above the portal.
What does this mean?
Until Multiverse fixes it's issues, portals will act very strangely. If Nether travel is important to your gameplay, you may need to limit how people can use them. Make sure the y levels for both portals are the same, and only enter the portals from 1 side, so you can be sure where you end up.

By one side you mean what you and I had discussed previously about the 6 block portal region?
Re: all the things, and whatnot (portals and shops shtuff)
Yep, exactly what we discussed.

Huh. Multiverse handling portals may well explain why I couldn't manually connect a portal in the nether to a portal in the overworld a few months back. You can do that in vanilla, but the nether portal was acting wonky, sending me to a set of coordinates in the overworld and generating a new portal about a thousand blocks away from the active portal that it should have sent me to.
