Zero Tolerance Policy

Postby VanteS » 24 Dec 2014, 12:28

Recently, there has been lots of griefing on the server, keeping up with rollbacks and player bans can be overwhelming given the short amount of time I can devote to moderating. Therefore I'm going to adopt a zero tolerance policy when it comes to punishing griefers, effective today.

If a player decides to destroy a building, even if its only a few blocks, I'm going to perma ban the player.

Destruction by a player is a sign of blatant disregard for the server rules and player property. These players aren't welcome here!

If anybody has reservations on this new policy please voice your opinion here.

What will be the case for previously minor bans? For example, Flynn_McClary was banned for just two days for giving out the password, and some people have been banned for one day. I feel it would be ridiculous to perma-ban someone for something so minor. What's official?

This is official, vantes is now the only mod on the server. Just to let you know these are trouble times. He cant control the server without someone else, vantes is tired of griefing, and just to let you know, don't answer to things like this because it might get you a ban, too...

If there is intent to destroy another player's building or if a player is found to have given out the password or if a player breaks any rule it shows that this player has a blatant disregard for server rules. We don't want players like this on TWiTCraft.

I know that accidents happen and people sometimes break blocks by mistake and can't immediately replace them, this is all considered before bans are applied.

Incorrect Diego, in my original post I encouraged anybody to voice their opinion here.

I would hope we could all have a constructive conversation where everybody feels comfortable voicing their opinion.

Sorry, my mistake. But for my opinion, I think people should now deserve a PERM ban, I feel sorry for you vantes since now you are the only one here, so this isn't a "Oh please un-ban me, im sooo sorry" deal anymore, I think that the people that got perms should blame the people who got banned over and over again. Bans should not be taken at TEMP, Bans should now be taken as PERM since there is only ONE Moderator on the server with 3276 roll-backs to do. This is my opinion.

In addition, (sorry if this is getting repetitive, just trying to clear this up) ShadowWind got perma-banned for advertising his realm. I know that this is breaking a rule, but it does not seem like Shadow did or ever had 'a blatant disregard for server rules'

I don't think Shadow, or many others to be perma-banned with the new policy, were/are:
-Players who found another server and want to leave with a bang
-Players who found Twitcraft and only wanted to grief from the start
-Players that are simply too lazy to get their own iron (for example)
or
-Players that have some sort of disrespect for other players because of real-life qualities that player has like a lack of proficiency in English or social conduct.

In short, ShadowWind did not (really) show a blatant disregard for server rules, and he still got perma-banned. I realize there is only so much one person can do (and you are doing a spectacular job), but a policy like this one seems too harsh. Maybe the One Month+ Ban Policy?

P.S. Playing devil's advocate, ShadowWind's appeal was pretty weak.

Everybody that plays on TWiTCraft has to read the rules thoroughly in order play.

Breaking any rule is a red flag and a sign of disrespect towards the server and to everybody else that follows the rules.

I agree it's a harsh policy and if more players agree with you that the policy should be nerfed, maybe it should.

As for ShadowWind, this isn't his first ban. ShadowWind is flynn_mcclary's alt, he's been banned twice already for destruction of property and giving out the password.

I think you'd agree after reviewing his previous bans that Shadowind/flynn_mcclary has displayed poor behavior over the past year on TWiTCraft. He has not adhered to server rules and allowing him to continue to play on TWiTCraft would alienate everybody else that plays by the rules. It would also send the message that griefing on TWiTCraft is not a serious offense and griefers are given three or four chances before a severe punishment is given.
