Server Status
It looks to me like the server has been abandoned by those responsible for maintaining it.
There's been a lot of functions (bank, modreq, etc) broken for quite some time now.
A moment ago I was the only one on with a good solid connection but the server was lagging out.
I don't want to seem like I don't appreciate the server, time, etc, but if it's going to be abandoned and left to rot, why not just pull the plug?
If not, then perhaps when time permits, some things could be fixed?

Re: Server Status
We do not need to pull the plug I feel like we just need some attention from other mods. There is only one mod who is constistent about attending to the server. Also I think if the server updates to 1.8(when the plugins update) that people will start to look for new survival vanilla servers.

There is really nothing that the regular players can do to help the server. All we have to do is wait.

the bank thing is a custom plugin so that is why that is not updated.

Re: Server Status
what do you mean? pay for your own server? or like those servers that offer mvp status. twitcraft doesn't offer that sort of thing.

Twitcraft is a free public server. Every player has the same experience, which over the years has generally been a good one.
What would drive it to be better maintained is for more folks to get back on and play. If none of the community shows interest, the admins/mods aren't going to show much interest either. All of this attitude saying "Server sucks, going somewhere else" or those who have started "me-too" servers all have contributed to the state this server is now in. It feels like a ghost town much of the time. Certain players, who I will not name, and I would appreciate if none of you name, that have been shown the door also had a hand in chasing away regular community members.
Mass griefing, building derp among nice communities and in people's front yards are yet more reasons regulars have not been inclined to return. I see posts from players saying "We need to do something! This needs to be fixed!" Well, step one in fixing the problem is to get on and play. I am on this server almost every day. I used to happily operate a community farm, but now that it has yet again been griefed and trampled, I think I may just move it to the back yard within my region. I, like many, am weary of this. Roads are chopped up everywhere. I see damage all over the map, which hasn't been reported since those folks who own buildings that have been hit aren't playing. I have seen disrespect of people's land in Forest Run. Almost no one in that sub community plays, and the squatter doesn't count. (You may know who I am referring to. You can see the ugly from the back of Netrokus's house).
The bank plugin is broken because the author has not updated it. Not out of admin neglect. There is little that can be done about that issue.
Some of the lag can probably be attributed to large scale redstone projects that have been left unchecked for awhile.
I am still willing to support this server and community. I am still willing to fill requests for homes and builds given free time, but this can't really be a community if no one is playing. So, as I have said, the fix is to get on and play. Not just talk about it, but really drive to bring this community back. My fear is, that it is probably too late. Many people have either moved and play elsewhere, or they have stopped playing Minecraft altogether.
The other real question: Since this server has so little to do with the Twit network itself, would we like to see it renamed/rebranded, to perhaps get away from certain negative connotations that may exist?
Let's not forget the efforts Vantes has put towards keeping things in order to the best of his ability.
Thoughts?

After what ngtflyer said, it made me think...I do strongly agree with what he said, all the work that vantes has done for use, but it's just too much for him now. But, i may think we're too late to solve any problems that the server has, people had moved on, doing other great things for other communities, but again, all we have to do is wait...

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on those points. The admin had plenty of chances/time to update the server before the mass exodus of players. He also had plenty of warnings that good players were going to leave if nothing was done. The bank plugin could of been fixed a long time ago too. I offered, and I'm pretty sure Vander made an entire new plugin and offered it to Curley.
I will agree that Vantes is an awesome mod and has done all he can and 'went down with the ship' so to speak.
The fact is Curley does not care about the server. The only way I see it being saved is him giving the admin power to someone else and a rebrand/reboot.
Edit:
These images say a lot:

I know it has been a long time since I last posted as I haven't played on TWiTCraft since October 2013. I am a member of the TWiT team in real life and my work at TWiT is an integral part of TWiT's branding. As such, I feel compelled to address the rebrand concept before it gets too far.
The actual server box is provided for TWiT's use by Server Central for promotional purposes. At the time that this arrangement was made, Chad was the producer of the show Game On and chose to use the machine to (along with his ChatCraft friends) host, admin, and moderate a minecraft server called TWiTCraft. Although the circumstances of that relationship have long since changed with Game On having been cancelled and Chad no longer working as a producer at TWiT, the arrangement has been honored by keeping TWiT's name and brand as part of the Server. If a rebranding were to occur, TWiT's name must be maintained as a part of the new server brand.
If the choice was made to keep the current map but change the brand completely, the server should then move to alternative hardware options that are not a part of TWiT's resources. At that time, either Curley would deliver admin access to one of the TWiT Techs or the box would be returned to Server Central.

Yes, any brand change would be totally separate from Twit, on different hardware not controlled by Twit.
Re: Server Status
After speaking with a few of the other TWiT team members, we would like to reach out and give you the options for the future of TWiTCraft (as much as we can). Based on what you all have posted, I am working on the premise that the admins and mods other than Vantes have pretty much abandoned the server. A big Thank You to Vantes for his dedicated work in moderating TWiTCraft for so long.
No one at TWiT (other than maybe myself ... and that is a very BIG maybe) has the interest or time to run/admin a minecraft server. This is why Chad asked his friends (Curley, D5, t2t2t, etc.) to do it in the first place.
From TWiT's perspective these are our options:
1: We can either just leave it "as is" which means you will have no support and the server will remain in its 1.7 build with broken plug-ins unless the admins return.
2: We can ask our contact at Server Central to wipe the server so that we can use it for other projects.
We definitely wouldn't mind having an extra server for use by our techs but we also don't want to cause distress to the players who are continuing to enjoy the server. We leave the decision up to you all. Good luck.

Re: Server Status
I think discussions need to be made between senior players, Vantes, Curley and some of the other former(?) moderators before a decision is made.

Not sure if we'll ever get a working atm alternative, perhaps we can get rid of the bank and just add some more sell signs at TWiTmart for money.
As for modreq and stables, plugins that aren't functional right now, Curley has said he'd update or find alternatives once we update to 1.8. When will we update? I don't know but Curley does intend on upgrading TWiTCraft to 1.8.
I keep an eye on the server and its been running at a solid 20 TPS since the last restart, there's the occasional network hiccup that might cause disconnects and if you're experiencing lag it might be local due to signs or entities.

Re: Server Status
For what it's worth, I vote for keeping TWITCraft around. I know a lot of people are annoyed about bits and pieces of it. The complaints are legitimate. I've seen the frustration in chat from people like Ngt in regard to all the griefing that seems to occur with irksome frequency, and I certainly hate seeing new holes in a road while I'm wandering around. Having said that, I would still take a buggy version of TWITCraft over a complete obliteration of it. I understand that all good things have to burn eventually, but it feels wrong to just wipe the server and walk away. I'm not on super frequently (due to being a boring adult with boring adult things to do), but there's something cool about the place you guys have set up here. It'd be a bummer to lose it. I don't really have thoughts one way or another regarding the bank, as it has never been an option for the handful of months that I've played here. I would agree that it'd be nice if more selling options were made available at TWiTmart. A lot of the shops I used to sell stuff to seem to be closing up piece by piece. As for mods, I know he's only one person, but Vantes seems to get a lot done when he pops up. I think he's doing what he can with the time he has, and I think we'll be okay overall. The server's not perfect, but it's pretty fun and I'd like it to stay.
Re: Server Status
A couple of notes..
First off, I definitely would like to see this server continue. It's been one of my two Minecraft 'homes' since it started in April 2012.
I applaud the change to zero tolerance. There's a sign right at spawn clearly stating that any griefing results in a permanent ban. I agree with this - If you get on a server, and you go and destroy something that isn't yours, it's obvious you don't have respect for others. This community has never stood for disrespect, and this policy will help quickly clean things up from this perspective.
I have noticed playership trending up. Hopefully this trend continues.
I am looking forward to the upgrade.

Seems like there still is interest and progress. Good. I'll keep an eye on the forums and check in with you all in a couple months.

Re: Server Status
that is heartening to hear.
i have had life (and not the Twitcraft griefers) get in the way of my free time to play on the server, so reading these topics about people dropping off, yet some people are still interested.
if i were to get a vote, as ive been been away a while, it would be to keep the server to 1.7 and try to fnd more time in the future to connect to old and new people.
with the changes in minecraft itself, it might be simpler to stay with 1.7 plug ins for know until there is more information.
hope to see you guys around soon
