Mods & Packs, Show & Tell

Postby tufkal » 30 Jan 2014, 14:06

I'm looking to beef up my client experience, and I know I could be doing more. I would like to start a thread for people to inform others, and talk about, clients mods that can enhance your playing experience.

I use:

VoxelMap / ZanMap
http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/zans-minimap/
-Your basic mini-map with radar, last death location, and better mapping in the nether than REI's.

HorseStats
http://www.mediafire.com/download/78qc5 ... _1.7.2.zip
-Shows the speed/health/jump of the horse you are riding, on your inventory screen.

OptiFine
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/249 ... much-more/
-Allows HD resource packs, improves performance with accelerated GPUs, etc, etc.

I currently don't use a resource pack / texture pack.

How about you???

The only mod I use that isn't already mentioned is WorldEditCUI. It gives you a graphical overlay in the world for WorldEdit. Not terribly useful for your average player on here anyway, but invaluable if you use WorldEdit or WorldGuard on a regular basis.

You don't need Optifine or MCPatcher for "HD" texture packs anymore. The game supports it by default.

For those taking an interest in modding in this thread; a reminder to please stay safe when looking for mods.

I also use Optifine and Zan's Minimap. Subjectively, both are vital for a good Minecraft experience. In addition, I also use:

  • In-game Info XML - This adds information anywhere on the HUD using an XML configuration, without needing the F3 display up. I have mine configured to show entity counts, current time, EXP progress, armor status and the current blocks/items I am looking at and holding.
  • Jolicraft - My favorite 16x resource pack and the only one I have consistently used through all my builds. I prefer its soft pastel colors and clay-like textures over Minecraft's harsh ones.
  • DangerZone (modified) - This resource pack changes the lightmap to strongly highlight unsafe areas. Makes it very useful for lighting up caves and overworld areas properly. I have modified mine to use deep purple for hostile areas only, as opposed to three colors. Requires Optifine.

Combined, these all look like:

The mods that I am still waiting for an update:
  • Macro/Keybind mod - Incredibly useful, allowed me to assign the "HOME" and "END" keys to "/home" and "/spawn" respectively. Makes near-death situations much quicker to escape.
  • Schematia - Allows for copying builds and then having a ghost image of that build overlaid somewhere else. For easier cloning of build templates, as an example.
  • Inventory Tweaks - Allows for sorting of inventory. Very useful in other servers and singleplayer, but was broken in the last Twitcraft. Hopefully when this mod is updated, it will work on Twitcraft.
  • Zyin's HUD - A more powerful version of the XML info mod above. This could show when animals were ready for breeding or how long they had left. Also had a light level indicator, etc.
