Design Competition

Postby HGLCraft » 25 Jan 2014, 06:31

Now that the new map is 1 month old, and some interesting houses and other designs are popping up, I would like to propose a TWiTCraft design competition!

The winners of the competition would be the best designs at the end of February, nominated by you, and judged by a panel of <ahem> experts.

The suggested categories are;

1. Best House
2. Best Infrastructure Project (Bridge, etc.)
3/ Best Community Project
4. Most Creative

For the competition we would need judges (who cannot enter any of the categories), prizes (are the mods willing to donate some server coin/resources) and your nominations.

I offer to coordinate and judge as I am a much better critic than designer :)

Please reply with your overwhelming support, ideas for categories, general fun banter and we will get this thing happening!

Cheers
HGLCraft

To be clear, this is for survival and not flatland, right?

If we are still doing this, I have a home already built that I would like to enter into that competition.

I have something to enter. It may not be very good yet, but it is my Town Hall. The coordinates are; X: -1800

Z: -2800. I would use the Medieval portal-if I were you. :) Enjoy! I would also look at Legida's build; it is extravagant!

This was discussed during today's Town Hall, and the design competition was met with lots of approval :D

So, what we were thinking about was getting a committee together (led by HGL) for the Design Competition and make this a serious thing (like DOT). Players can donate prizes for the winners of various categories and get a judging committee together.

A lot of players (myself included) are very eager to see this go somewhere. If there is anything that I can do to help or a set place for donations, just let me know! :)

OK.. let's get this moving then.

Reply to this thread for:
1. To join the Judging Panel - we only need 3-4 people and you cannot enter the competition if you are a judge.
2. To suggest a category

A new thread will be created to call for nominations on the 22nd of Feb, closing on the 1st of March. Entries will then be judged and an award ceremony held at the next Town Hall.

We will create a few signs to collect donations for Prizes.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts or suggestions.

I would be happy to act as a judge, and here are a few category ideas.

Most attractive or creative:

* Small build. Footprint no larger than 13x13 (the same size as the old worlds Leoville lots for reference). Small builds are easy to overlook but require creativity and attention to detail to really pull off.

* Large build. Not sure how big to require but these bold structures should have their own category and are impossible to leave out of a design competition.

* Youth build. How about some positive reinforcement for the kids on the server. Any build by player or players all of whom are 12 or under. Suggest 2nd and 3rd place for this category. Or perhaps an honorable mention for any outstanding non 1st place builds.

Also most attractive or creative:

* House
*Shop
*Stable
*Farm (plants)
*Farm (animal)
* Interior Design
* Landscaping
* Lighting
* Use of environment or Biome
* Use of Cobblestone and/or wood as primary building material
* Use of unpopular building materials, such as melon, snow or that purple/ blue clay no one seems to like. We might want to make a list of what all counts.

question: does it include everything built so-far or what is built in february specifically for the competition? (not going for the committee as i would like to enter)

We have many kinds of food, pies, all dyes and cake. No lie!

Quick thing that I'd like to propose:
Being able to judge for any category that your build/builds are not a part of. (Example, if you have a castle that you'd like to enter, you can still judge for small builds, shops, etc.)

I would also like to make some category suggestions:
  • Dimensional (Builds in the Nether)
  • Creative location (Underground, in the air, underwater, etc.)
  • Realistic (Builds that appear to abide by the suggestions of physics.)

And finally, I would like to both donate some prizes for the contest and volunteer as a judge.

I hope to see this competition take off as well as Trivia has :)

Mod edit: Fixed your list formatting

Don't despair, this is happening - I have been a bit tardy putting it together.

That means you get more time to finish your builds!!
