East Leoville Beautification project

Postby Timberwolf1777 » 23 Aug 2013, 00:11

I have some design design ideas for modifying the very empty SouthEast Leoville area that is right in front of my home (like adding palm trees to line the sky5 highway). I have spoken to the mods about it and they are understandably busy with their actual important moderator tasks. They like the idea of that area (The big empty desert patch and the resource portal) having a bit of refinement but also have some concerns (below) which is why Im making this post. I would love to get the community's concerns/approval/etc before I proceed with doing to much test work in creative.

Their concerns are:
1. Allowing a player to build in the leoville region
- I would address this by having a large sub-region be created for that area (like a large leoville lot) with only temporary access granted to it during building.
2. Other players saying "not fair!" to a player being allowed to build in leoville while still excluding other people from the build.
- I am addressing this with this post. Hopefully many of you would also love to see some landscaping there and approve of the initiative allowed toward making it pretty. I would also be building with all my own materials/time/expense on land I never will own at no costs to anyone but me.
3. Design style fitting the area.
- I hope my design ability speaks for itself. I would love to create a merge and transition space with the styles thesillychicken (Mirage), myself (The Citadel), and the mods (Central Leoville) that fits all three and flows well with the biomes and themes there.

Please let me know your thoughts and concerns!

Thanks,

-Timberwolf1777

1. and 2. I think there's only 2 or 3 players who would actually come up with this line of thought and complain. The rest would be like "Ooo pretty trees!" I fall in the later group, personally.

3. Yes, I agree that it should flow between the three. It might not hurt to get with the property owners closer to the Museum/Ocean and see if they'd be willing to do some remodeling as well. I know Van, Rage, Night, and I have been trying to do this in the area closer to the East Highway for the last few months.

I don't have any real concerns with this. It's a good idea and I look forward to seeing the results! :)

My General Opinion is So long as the area does not get controlled by the build party but released to the community in general I am all for it

The area would never be owned by a player. The idea is to have to mods provide access to the region for a predetermined build time (for example: 2 weeks). Once that time was over, the region would return to being a mod-only editable space. If I want turf in leoville to be "mine," I would have to pay for a leoville lot just like everyone else.

I'm pretty supportive of the idea, as one of the "fringe" tenants that has a view of the "vacant" lot that is East Leoville.

I like the idea of the open area, as it provides a good area to move between the Mirage, Resource Portal, Spawn and properties. Therefore the project should beatify while still supporting that open / travel purpose.

I also have no issues with 1 & 2, letting someone (Timber) take on the task - if you gets it wrong, we'll soon let you know :)

I think leadership IS important, and I personally wouldn't be one to "bitch" (especially since anyone who stumbled upon my terrace clearly understands I'm more of a survivalist than architect). I think all your motives are valid and it's only natural to have some beautification going on: it motivates players to see there is change and improvements on and about Leoville.

In my opinion, undeveloped city land looks like poor areas of Oakland, CA that can be redeveloped by someone into something useful or at least be part of city beautification. I'm all for parks, community gardens, lakes/reservoirs, etc. If for some reason later on, the City administrators (mods) determine that they have a better use for the land later, then it can be redeveloped again.

And lastly, as long as it doesn't cause more Leoville lag, it's all good. :)

I can't say anything in support of the East Leoville Beautification project that hasn't already been said before. Go for it!

I'm for the beautification project a tennis court could blend in quite well, to add to a sort of park feel. but if im not sure if this is a brainstorming thread or not, or if this is just a sort of of bid to develop the capital area for the residents of Leoville and Twitcraft as a whole.

The post was mainly to get the input of the community about if we all would think that allowing a player (me) to modify that area to have some parkland development for the good of all of us was acceptable. That said, I also welcome any ideas put forward. I want to make something we all can enjoy.

At this point gregor, I have heard nothing from the mods about this either way. I would, however, assume that considering lag issues in the area, until the current open lots get filled, they probably wont be adding more. If they do decide to add more in the area in question, then that will be addressed at that time and they are free to do what is needed. In the meantime, I would love to see that area become a bit more refined.

I"m all for it. it's a way for no player to own the space but be able to take part in building around twitcraft. im very good at working for weeks on others plans more than incepting my own and i am way too cheap to have a leoville lot. so this lets me have some ownership (work-wise, not actual) of things around twitcraft "i saw them build that, i helped get stone for that, i made that roof" ownership without the rent, i love it

and since no one but the mods control it in the end theres likely to be no store there so less lag. even if i miss the window of helping build, i want to see what people make. though im finding the empty lots in december to be part of the landmarks i use to navigate leoville, but i cant say enough how impressed i am with what people are building in/around town. i would love to collab with a bunch of us on what to put in a big-shared build space

Inyeresting idea abigail for a shared build space. But that was not the idea I am pitching here.

Too many cooks in the kitchen would create conflict and be a design mess. I would much prefer a single builder deal with designing that space, even if it meant I couldnt participate. We could do a competition if enough people were interested. I just felt that I might do the space justice and do a good job with design consistency considering so much of the nearby land has my work.

EDIT: I wrote this via smartphone in the last town before the gates to Burning Man. Very shortly no cell service or interwebs for a whole week! *unplugs self from electronic devices* ....WOOT! Party time! :)
