Death Chest mod?
Hello! Is there any chance we will consider implementing a Death Chest mod of sorts? The most common one seems to be Risugami's (link) and for those not familiar with it, it basically does the following (as far as I can tell):
- When you die, puts down a chest where you died and fills it with your most valuable (or perhaps random?) stuff. Any other leftover is spilled onto the floor.
- This happens if and only if you have a chest in your inventory.
- It will only ever put down 1 single chest (half an inventory's worth of space).
This will mainly be useful to prevent items from despawning if you die far away, or down a hole like that silly player trap with that inviting sign that invites you in for cake and that you have to dig down for etc. You still die and lose your items, but most will be saved and you have no time limit to get back there before it poofs.
Additionally, it may (not sure, can't find solid video evidence of it) prevent some item loss in lava, which tends to be a major source of player ragequit. Not that we still don't have to be careful, since the chest may end up in an inconvenient place still, and you still have to get back to your stuff, but that would at least bring lava deaths in line with all other deaths (except falling out of the world, in which this mod probably won't be able to help, hey).
Thirdly, it may lead to either more community expeditions to help someone find/retrieve their stuff, or simply more sources of treasure in the world for others if the person doesn't care enough to go back to their chest to get it (if they deem it too far out/not valuable enough to be worth the walk, someone else may still find it in the future).
And lastly it will make it less likely players nearby will inadvertently (or on purpose) pick up the spilled stuff unknowingly, since they would have to physically open the chest to loot most of the items.
I am not sure how this will interface with regions if you die inside someone else's claimed space. Even if unlootable in that case it may be good to act as a "someone was here" proof, I guess, and any inappropriate region claiming to farm player traps can always be /modreqqed or something (likely not something that would happen for the most part though).

Re: Death Chest mod?
There is a 90% chance this wont be implemented. This would take away some excitement and suspense from the game.
We already have non-explosive creepers and "passive" enderman.
As we have said before, we want to keep the server as vanilla as possible with some added stuff, But in my opinion is way too much.

My excitement comes from logging on and seeing if someone has built something ugly
