Geocrafting!

Postby hamy02 » 26 Oct 2012, 15:20

Anyone know about Geocaching? http://www.geocaching.com/ Basically, it is sort of like treasure hunting. Someone hides a cache, and you try to find it. If you find it, you sign a logbook saying that you have found it. Also, if it is big enough, there may be items in it. You can take the items, but YOU MUST LEAVE SOMETHING IN TRADE. Anyway, today I got an idea, and that was for Minecraft Geocaching (which I guess could be called Geocrafting). I found a Bukkit plugin that allows it, http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/inact-fun-geocacher-v1-2-a-geocaching-plugin-for-minecraft-addons-for-perm-and-xconomy-953.12027/, but also we could do it without plugins. For instance, we could place a chest with some stuff in it (eg. diamonds, iron, apples, ect.), and put a book and quill for the logbook. It would be a good way for people to get items that they need, and have to leave stuff in trade but not have to pay (this would be useful if the player has no money and the salary would take a while to fully pay for it. I would happily make a building with the coordinants that people could post of the caches, with the rules and explaining what it is to people that don't know about it. Anyone want to help? Leave a reply and I'll talk to you about it more.

I haven't been geocaching yet this year :( but last year I found over 100 of them in the Kansas and Missouri area, it can be a lot of fun :). I think this could be a cool idea especially for people that like to adventure, you could even place some temporary ones in the resource worlds each week to change up the terrain even more. I thought about doing this not long ago but I don't really have the time to work on this with other stuff I am trying to get done.

Cool to see I'm not the only Geocacher on TWiTCraft. :D In fact, just found a cache and logging it right now. I like the idea of this on the resource world, only problem is I'd have to go in every week and find them to take them back if I/ someone else had put valuables in that chest. But I'll think of something.
